Revision of online gambling legislation in Sweden has been started

Swedish government has been working on new gambling regulation model. Nowadays gamblers, gambling operators and all those who are interested to step on the Swedish market have been discussing this topic.

Gambling applications will open very soon for Swedish iGaming marketplace

Lotteriinspektionen – the gambling regulator for Sweden has recently announced their plan to open a licensing door on 01.07.2018. To step on the Swedish market there are some requirements to be covered. These regulatory provisions were published at the end of 2017. All the companies that are looking to get into iGaming market of this country should fulfill the basic requirements and expect some additional changes in the last minute.

Discussions regarding the Tax Percentage

Further debates referring the tax rates are expected. They will be used for online gambling operators who receive a license for making their business on the Swedish market. According to the common believe there will be a 18% tax imposed on all operator revenue earned in this country.

Tax has been a cause for massive discussions. We believe that at the end a compromise can be reached. According to Lotteriinspektionen, the state gambling regulator, a tax of 18% won't be an obstacle for all those huge companies interested in entering the Swedish market.

What could be the Expectations?

Any licensing applications from foreign and domestic gambling operators who wish to work in Sweden will be reviewed by Lotteriinspektionen. There won't be limitations in the number of applicants. Every operator who would like to work legally in Sweden could apply for a license.

All the applications will be taken into consideration after the 1st July, 2018. The approved ones could expect to start their business from the 1st January, 2019. The previous two gambling acts, 1994 Lottery Act and 1999 Casino Act, will be replaced by the new regulations, to become the only valid legislation.

Very soon a new market will be open for gambling business. It will lead to bigger revenue and areas to explore. Even things are considered to be moving too slowly, we can already say that things concerning the national iGaming market will happen pretty soon in Sweden.
