The Malta Gaming Authority have recently published their first gambling consumption survey. The numbers in this report are extremely interesting. They reveal that nearly 2.8% of household consumption is actually spent on gambling. Nowadays the national lottery has proved to be the most popular.

Slots and football betting from the online sector have 69% of gross gaming revenue distribution.

From the MGA survey it can be seen that approximately 200 000 people spent money on some form of gambling in 2015. It is clear that more than half of the population of Malta over the legal age for gambling (18) spend their free time in this entertainment. 

It appears from the survey, that regarding the players in the online gambling sector, men make up 79% of the customers as a whole.

iGaming brought to Malta’s budget €57 million in tax revenue during the year of 2016. From the other hand, online casinos that applied for new licenses generated an incredible income of   €6.4 million.

 

The future of Malta’s iGaming

It is evident that Malta’s Gambling will grow and increase with the years. Each year this business brings in millions of euro to the state budget.

As a favorable factor for the success of this industry is the fact that the government of Malta aims to attract foreign investments for the state economy. It is more than sure that in the future iGaming industry in Malta is going to increase and develop in the positive direction.
